In his visit, JK was accompanied by Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman and South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin. JK's visit was also coinciding with the commemoration of the 35th World Food Day.
JK said that in maintaining the farming food quality, many breakthroughs are needed to maintain the food supply in meeting the public demands.
"Agriculture innovation may only increase by technology, as land has its limit. And using this (technology) is important, it is important to be implemented, how to teach the society, farm groups, and everything else to apply that," and how we fund them," said JK in his visit at the Jakabaring Sport Center, Palembang, South Sumatra, Saturday 17 Oktober 2015.
Reported there are several plants modified to face the draught season, such as amphibious rice, which may hold in extreme weather like draught or flood.
JK again said that one of the variety of rice may become the superior breed as it may stand extreme conditions.
"Therefore the technology has plants with no need of lots of water, it is not all rice. There are farming plantations, horticultural, household plantations, varied, herb plants, it can be done with not too much water," JK continued.
The World Food Day was commemorated annually since 1981 throughout the world, including Indonesia. The theme of this year's commemoration internationally is 'Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty'.
The theme was a notice for all parties in the world to pay greater attention towards the vulnerable and poor societies in the villages, by providing the guarantee of access towards food and other vital resources, in order to increase their welfare and independence.
The basic principles of aid provided leads towards the effort of increasing productivity and not just mere help (from charity to productivity).
